Curated by: JENNIFER MANKINS "Lightscapes, Nightscapes and Microscapes" is an exhibition of paintings by Cameron Goodyear, Anna Killander, and Christopher Martino. The Brooklyn-based artists explore remembered, imaginary and cellular landscapes, at once negotiating beauty, form, history and gesture. The narrative in each work--a warm summer night, jumping in a pool, a burst of microscopic spores reminiscent of a dandelion--evokes nostalgia, a yearning for a lost time or place, both real and imagined. There is also a sense of movement and energy in each work, as the viewer is invited to journey through the landscape, to explore the painting as a means of travel. Whether in soft focus, or microscopic detail, each work disrupts the illusion of perspective, by combining forms and actions at once familiar and foreign. |
