| My work is about context. In setting up a relationship between imaginary objects and the grounds behind them, situations arise. Narratives are set up, although the paintings themselves are not narrative in the conventional sense. And so the grounds resemble stage sets. Their nature, be they simply white, or metallic, or iridescent, or reflective, defines the space, sets the stage. The objects themselves exist not only as objects, but as objects existing in their own imaginary world, where their situations in some sense define them, as we are all defined by the world in which we live. As we react to our surroundings and respond to our circumstances, my work is about the relationship between ourselves and our environment. |
