Carin Whitney I moved to Brooklyn from upstate New York, where I was adjunct professor of Printmaking, Papermaking, and Interdisciplinary Practices at Buffalo State College and the University at Buffalo. After receiving my MFA, I worked in the curatorial department at the Albright Knox Art Gallery on a large accession of prints ranging from Rembrandt to Rauschenberg. My mixed media works reflect on issues of collective memory, archive, and loss. While in Buffalo I completed a collaborative site-specific installation in an abandoned police precinct on the city’s west side, which I attended incognito as a giant pink stuffed bear. I have been a key holder at the Lower East Side Print Shop, and have shown at the International Print Center New York. Together with my collaborator, Todd Mariani, I have formed Reciprocal Press, a collective web exhibition space for new media projects that has yet to find its inaugural members. Todd Mariani I grew up in Buffalo, New York, where I acquired a fascination for small objects. I wasn’t very interested in education or school and spent most of my time playing in the mud and foolishly picking up dead bees on dares. As I grew up I became interested in learning and became involved in education. I attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Buffalo State College and finally the University of Buffalo where I received my MFA in Painting. After that I taught painting, drawing and graphic design at a few different local colleges. I was also fortunate to work with seven area high schools teaching kids to build their own web sites and create multimedia projects based on their curriculum. I currently work for an e-learning company designing content for educational software. |
