Lauren Portada’s work aims to decipher her relationship with the natural world while admittedly romanticizing the majestic landscape. Within these ideas is the understanding that our relationship to our surroundings is at once clean, sterile and removed. Her use of color and texture dirty and saturate that which is pristine, and forms gives rise to ideas of wholeness and truth. She currently resides in Brooklyn, New York and considers herself a jack of many trades. Having grown up in the Hudson Valley, NY, nestled in the green of rolling pastures, she often imagined living on the coast of a tropical island with a coconut farm. She has had shows in NYC, Chicago, Boston and India. |
