My art is a form of time and space travel. It is a hybrid of computer art and traditional painting, reflective of my desire to transgress the boundaries of time and space. I harvest images from the internet, which I in turn modify and collage to create new amalgamated illusions. These new ghost images become new entities in cyberspace and my response to the anonymous people who uploaded original images in the internet. Some of these ghost images become corporeal while others remain in ethereal on the cyber space. I digitally print some of images on polyester or cotton canvas and paint with traditional paint, as if traveling back to the time, before the internet age. I see the process as a continuum and as a full circle of life: the ghost images derived from virtual space are given new tangible objects. My work has grown from examining the social anxiety and contemplating the unresolved issues of life. It is inspired by ancient philosophy, mysticism, contemporary culture and technology. It evokes the harmonious coexistence of paradoxical elements in all forms of life. Narcotic substances, modern technology, Buddha or even tiny flowers in my artwork all address the same wish that every walk of life in different time and space yearns for. I diagram the wish in my work. Nevertheless, the harmony created through my art is just another virtual illusion; I intend to focus on the continuous search effort itself as the essential beauty of humanity. My artwork reflects my desire and attempts to reach throughout time and space: perfect, yet unattainable, happiness. |
