I am interested in moments of meaningful human contact – times when the psychological impact of a space, meeting, or occurrence far exceeds the importance of the event having taken place. I have found that these instances happen in situations that allow for creativity and play, and thus, the foundation of my work occupies both ends of the möbius strip of art-making. Anchored by my own process of object production on one end and the viewer’s performance of the work on the other, this process is often collaborative, relational, and participatory. Taking into account the psychogeography of the spaces that I create, my work spans media and disciplines to examine perceptual phenomena during social situations. My installations are laboratories to investigate the persisting roles of wonder and mystery of humanity in contemporary art practice. |
