Compelling imagery isn't exclusive to art - it's present in everyday life, everywhere you look. As an artist, I get my kicks by making observations and experimenting with organic imagery, while infusing a bit of humor. Often times, I'll begin a piece by observing something, whether its a lettuce leaf or a body part. I'll then start to paint. My treatment of the object tends to fall far from traditional "still life" painting. The original form often mutates and transforms into something entirely different on canvas. Something that requires observation and contemplation - if you feel like it. What rocks about art is when an observer has to stop and think about what a painting is or means. It's all subjective to individual interpretation. There is no wrong. |
