My most recent work is directly related to my personal experience of immigration, as an Argentinean artist who came to the United States in 1999. Since then I’ve been interested in exploring ideas of exile, relocation, and displacement. Inspired by the works of Eva Hesse, Ana Mendieta and Marina Abramovic, I literally incorporate my body into my artwork. My own hair has been my preferred material for artistic exploration. I consider these maps to be self-portraits, carriers of my DNA, they are cartographies of my experience. In them, race and gender converge to deconstruct simple notions of subjectivity, elaborating narratives that resonate in the complexity of exile in the contemporary world. |
