I am working on a series of remembered and imaginary landscapes. I am trying the capture the sense of rapture, stealth and vulnerabilty of being out of doors at night. There is a specific type of summer night I keep coming back to: the coolness of the grass and the sound of crickets and coyotes. I think right now in my life painting is a kind of escape, and there is a very literal escapism to these paintings. They are a little window on a place to roam; to intoxication, freedom, and fear. |
