With jazz musicians as my subject, I can explore figure compositions using space, form, and the movement over the flat surface of the painting. I create these compositions from my mind.Their inspiration comes from jazz clubs, Persian miniature painting, the paintings of Pollaiuolo, and Rogier van der Weyden. In working from my imagination I begin with the geometric structure and make my subject conform to it. I let my understanding of composition and structure be my guide, rather than what I am observing in my environment. |
